Anything from the trolley, dears? We'll take the lot! Ahead of HBO's Harry Potter series coming in 2027, Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking has continued to be a streaming smash — accio-ing a place at #9 worldwide across streaming charts, a year ahead of the franchise's 25th anniversary. The series — which airs on Food Network and streams globally through HBO platforms — is a fun crossover of the Wizarding World and the Great British Bake-Off, which, obviously, is a perfect blend. Hosted by James and Oliver Phelps, the real-life twins who played Fred and George Weasley in all eight Harry Potter films, Wizards of Baking is what you get when you imagine what the Hogwarts kids ate in the Great Hall.
The show kicks off with nine squads of elite bakers — all matched up through the Floo Network because Wizarding World rules — and they’re immediately thrown into making over-the-top fantasy desserts based on iconic movie moments and locations. Their first mission? Build a massive two-foot edible sculpture recreating a standout Harry Potter scene. Only six teams survived the chaos and snagged a seat on the Hogwarts Express for Episode 2.
Judges Carla Hall and Jozef Youssef are on deck to rate the bakers’ flavors and overall swagger, and each episode brings in special guests straight from the franchise — we’re talking Bonnie Wright (Ginny), Evanna Lynch (Luna), and Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick). And if you’re into those “wait… THAT’S a cake?!” shows, many of the cast also appeared on Netflix’s Is It Cake? Filmed at Warner Bros. Studios in the UK, Wizards of Baking is dripping with nostalgia. They’ve got legit props like the Hogwarts Express and the Fat Lady portrait, plus throwback clips from the OG movies. So the series ends up being both a baking showdown and a full-on love letter to the cinematic universe that raised an entire generation.
What Else Is Happening With Harry Potter?
Meanwhile, anticipation continues to build for the upcoming HBO Harry Potter scripted series, which is in the middle of filming with showrunner Francesca Gardiner (Succession) and director Mark Mylod set to take control of the first episodes. That project, which has been confirmed to debut in 2027, will adapt all seven of Rowling’s books over multiple seasons, offering a more faithful and expansive retelling of the story that began over two decades ago. The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as the Boy Who Lived, with an all-star cast including John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Nick Frost, and more as the series — set in the 1990s — brings us the newest take on the most famous boy wizard of all time.
Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking is available to stream now on HBO Max, while production on the television series continues apace.
