The Notre Dame Fighting Irish came in at No. 10 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, setting up a tense weekend as they wait to see if they’ve done enough to earn a spot in the 12-team playoff, which will be announced Sunday morning.

The Fighting Irish have been one of the most dominant teams in the nation, rebounding strongly after two close losses to start the season. Leading the way in South Bend has been head coach Marcus Freeman.

Freeman guided Notre Dame to a national championship last season and has the team in position for another potential playoff bid. Yet he remains one of the most talked-about coaches whenever other vacancies arise.

Despite the speculation, Freeman delivered a clear, two-word message when asked if he plans to stay at Notre Dame during a Wednesday appearance on the TODAY Show.

“What about you? Are you going to stay put?” he was asked.

“Oh yeah,” Freeman replied.

Freeman took over as Notre Dame’s head coach in 2021 after Brian Kelly departed for LSU and has compiled a 43-12 record across the 55 games he’s coached.

Last season, he led the Fighting Irish to three wins in the College Football Playoff against Indiana, Georgia, and Penn State before falling short in the national championship game against his alma mater, Ohio State, where he played three years of college football.

Freeman has been one of a handful of coaches frequently mentioned as a potential candidate to make the jump to the NFL if the right opportunity arises. That said, for now, there doesn’t appear to be any intention of leaving Notre Dame. However, that could change quickly, as we’ve already seen multiple coaching moves take place this offseason.
