The new announcement confirms the original short story, iconic for its introduction of the magical sorceress Yennefer in her first meeting with Geralt, will be adapted into graphic novel format by Dark Horse Comics. Continuing the universe made famous in Cd Projekt RED's Witcher video game series, the new novel will be written by CD Projekt RED's Marcin Zwierzchowsk (with English adaptation by Stefan Kiełbasiewicz), with art by Guillermo Fajardo (Grimm Fairy Tales), colors by Neeraj Menon (Star Wars: Darth Vader), and letters by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou (The Witcher: Corvo Bianco).

The graphic novel will be available in paperback and a 72-page hardcover volume beginning August 11, 2026, with cover art by Kai Carpenter, as in the previous five graphic novels now available from Dark Horse:

  • A Grain of Truth
  • The Lesser Evil
  • A Question of Price
  • The Edge of the World
  • The Witcher

The Last Wish markes the sixth of seven total short stories released in Sapkowski's debut novel in The Witcher universe, throwing Geralt headlong into a magical dilemma, seeking aid from a mysterious sorceress fated to become a fantasy icon. The full plot synopsis can be found below:

Driven by unhealthy curiosity, Dandelion breaks a magic seal and unleashes a djinn whom he hopes will grant his wishes. Instead, the creature attacks him, leaving him with wounds only a mage can heal. Geralt rushes the bard to a nearby town, but in a city where casting spells carries heavy penalties, there is only one sorceress who might help—Yennefer of Vengerberg. Despite her beauty, grace, and zeal, can she be trusted? With the djinn set loose, Geralt is at the mercy of magic. And as a struggle for power and control begins, wishes are made, but whose are being granted?

Fans Still Debate Exactly What Geralt's 'Last Wish' is Worded To Be

Although somewhat changed, worldwide audiences got the chance to see "The Last Wish" adapted in Netflix's The Witcher TV series,. When Geralt (Henry Cavill) angers a djinn, sending him in aid to Yennefer (Anya Chaloptra), forever binding their fates. Players of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt saw this story alluded to in a new follow-up quest, with Zwierzchowski now able to adapt the story in full for fans to enjoy:

“This story is really special, as it introduces one of the most important characters in Geralt’s life — Yennefer. And what an introduction it is! She’s fierce, and as beautiful as she is dangerous. We needed to get Yennefer right. And when I saw Guillermo’s first designs for her, and saw how he captured this duality in her, I knew the whole story would now work.”

The goal of "getting Yennefer right" will be good news for fans of the original Sapkowski novels and The Witcher video game series, but whether or not this adaptation will shed any more light on exactly what Geralt's last wish actually was is still a mystery for now.

Fans and interested readers can mark their calendars, when The Witcher: The Last Wish arrives in bookstores and comic shops on August 11 and 12, 2026 for $19.99. Pre-orders availble now.
