By Andrew RavensShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberChris Jericho is reportedly weeks, if not days, away from becoming one of the most sought-after names on the free agent market, with both AEW and WWE vying for his services. The former World Champion addressed his future during a Tuesday morning appearance on "The Tim Weisberg Show" on WBSM 1420AM, making it clear that he has no intention of hanging up his boots just yet.
"You never know. I’m not done yet. Still figuring out everything and we’ll see where I end up. I’m pretty sure you’ll see me in 2026 in a wrestling ring somewhere," Jericho said.
AEW President Tony Khan has publicly stated his desire to retain the 55-year-old star, who has been with the company since its inception. Jericho's initial signing lent the startup promotion instant credibility, and he served as the inaugural AEW World Champion. Speaking on "Busted Open Radio" earlier this fall, Khan emphasized Jericho's importance to the roster.
"Chris is always a welcome, big part of AEW. We’d always want to have him here. I absolutely am so grateful to Chris Jericho for everything he’s done," Khan said.

However, reports indicate that WWE is interested in bringing Jericho back for a retirement tour in 2026. According to the Wrestling Observer, there are some within WWE who expect him to sign once his All Elite Wrestling contract expires. If he were to return, it would mark his first appearance for the company in nearly eight years.
Jericho has been out of action since April, when he dropped the ROH World Title to Bandido at "Dynasty". His final appearance occurred on the subsequent episode of "Dynamite," where he destroyed his "TV Time" set and abandoned his Learning Tree stablemates, Bryan Keith and Big Bill. He stated he would not return until they proved themselves as winners, a cliffhanger that could serve as a farewell if he chooses to leave.
Those following Jericho on social media have noted that he is in tremendous shape during his hiatus. This has fueled speculation that if WWE only offers a short-term retirement run similar to John Cena's, Jericho might opt to stay with AEW or go elsewhere to extend his career further.
As 2025 draws to a close, both companies are preparing for major year-end events. WWE will host "Saturday Night's Main Event" on December 13 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., featuring John Cena's final match of the year. Meanwhile, AEW is building toward "Worlds End," which takes place on December 27 at the Now Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
