The Commodores have put a renewed focus on in-state recruiting in recent years and have two other commitments from Tennessee in the 2027 class: Shelbyville Central outfielder Stephen Bobo and Brentwood lefty Nolan Brown.

"Joe's just now starting to scratch the surface to where he's going to be and what he's going to do this year," Oak Ridge coach Travis Free said. "I mean, when I got him, he was 88-90. To close out the fall, he was 95. I think he's going to go up close to 98 before this year's over with. ... God's gifted him with 6-3, 6-4, and he's got a great right arm. He's dedicated to doing the little things right, which has translated to more velocity, better gameplay across the board."
