INDIANAPOLIS — Tuesday's game between Butler and Eastern Michigan has gotten more and more chippy as its progressed.
As tensions began to rise in the second half, Bulldogs freshman Azavier "Stink" Robinson was hit with a flagrant 2 foul on a block attempt and was ejected from the game.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe foul came with 9 minutes, 28 seconds left in the game. Addison Patterson got the ball on a breakaway. As he elevated for the dunk, Robinson went up to contest the shot. Patterson made the dunk, and the players went tumbling to the ground. Patterson flexed at the camera, but neither player seemed to make any type of hostile gestures toward each other.
After a video review, Robinson's foul was deemed a flagrant two and he was ejected from the game. Patterson was hit with a type A flagrant foul and was allowed to stay in the game. The referee said Robinson drew the flagrant two for "kicking."
The Butler bench was visibly confused by the call. Yame Butler entered for the ejected Robinson, who finished with five points and four assists in his second career start.
In the first half, Mak Maciel and Jamie Kaiser Jr. fell to the ground while battling for a loose ball. The two tussled for a bit, but neither player was called for a foul.
