Heading into the month of November, the Oregon Ducks had a big task on their hands, needing to win every game on their schedule against the toughest stretch of opponents they had faced all year. On top of that, they were asked to do so without a handful of their starting players on offense, leaning on the depth of the roster to stay alive for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
Now, as we enter December, Oregon can look back with a smile. They executed perfectly, never dropped a game, and established themselves as one of the top teams in the nation along the way. More than that, they were able to find a way to avoid the Big Ten Championship Game, allowing Dan Lanning's team to rest, get healthy, and prepare for the postseason.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThere is still much to figure out when it comes to that postseason, though. With one week of conference championship games left, the final seeding needs to be figured out for the playoff bracket. Where will the Ducks ultimately fall? That's a question that we will get a good sense of tonight when the updated rankings are released by the College Football Playoff committee.
Here's a look at how the playoff committee sees the top teams in the nation for their penultimate rankings:
Ohio State Buckeyes
Indiana Hoosiers
Georgia Bulldogs
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Oregon Ducks
Ole Miss Rebels
Texas A&M Aggies
Oklahoma Sooners

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The next playoff rankings will come out on Sunday of this weekend at 9 a.m. PST on ESPN.

This is the second year that there are 12 teams in the College Football Playoff. For the first 10 iterations of the playoff, there were only four teams invited.
How does College Football Playoff format work?
In a change from last year, the seeding will be different in this year's playoff. No longer are the highest-ranked conference champions rewarded with a first-round bye. Instead, it is the four highest-ranked teams in the nation who will receive the bye weeks in the playoff.
