When Lane Kiffin boarded the private jet to make his way to Baton Rouge on Sunday, Ole Miss offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. was one of the staffers on board.
Weis followed Kiffin to Louisiana to take over the offensive coordinator position on the LSU Tigers' 2026 staff. The 32-year-old OC will still take over that position in the future, but Kiffin and LSU are allowing him to return to Oxford for the Rebels' upcoming College Football Playoff run.
Kiffin released an official statement regarding the decision on Tuesday, saying he hopes this move will help Ole Miss get the highest possible position in the final College Football Playoff rankings.
"With the playoff committee releasing updated rankings tonight, I wanted it to be known that after conversations with LSU, we are allowing Charlie to return to Ole Miss to coach the team during the playoffs," Kiffin said, via team insider Koki Riley. "I've already made the committee aware of this and I'm hopeful this decision will allow Ole Miss to receive the highest ranking possible because these great players are very deserving of that. I'm excited that Charlie will be back to help coach the greatest team in the history of Ole Miss."

Ole Miss finished the 2025 regular season with one of the best offensive units in college football, averaging 498.1 yards and 37.3 points per game with Weis at the OC position. The Rebels finished the year with an 11-1 record, marking the school's best season in program history.
The College Football Playoff selection committee will release its penultimate rankings on Tuesday night. Ole Miss, who will not play in the upcoming SEC Championship game, currently hold No. 7 position in the CFP rankings.
The selection committee will unveil its final CFP rankings after conference championship weekend on Dec. 7.
