Dec. 2—QB —Mayo

6-6 —185 —Senior

Noteworthy: Peterson turned in a spectacular season, complete with him having the highest completion percentage in the state (193-for-271, 71.2%). The senior threw for 2,133 yards (fifth in the state) and 18 touchdowns (19th in the state). He averaged 213 yards passing per game.

RB —Pine Island

5-10 —170 —Senior

Noteworthy: Thein received strong consideration for our Post Bulletin All-Area Player of the Year distinction. He put up amazing numbers, led by him averaging a jaw-dropping 11.1 yards per carry. Thein — fast, quick and great with his cuts — finished with 1,970 yards rushing. He totaled 28 rushing touchdowns. Thein is a competitive leader on and off the field with an intense work ethic.

RB —Kingsland

5-7 —200 —Senior

Noteworthy: Reiland has been a huge part of Kingsland's massive success over the last five years. He played quarterback for the Knights, but was used almost more as a running back in their system. Reiland, who suffered a late season-ending injury, rushed for 991 yards and 14 touchdowns. He averaged a whopping 9.3 yards per carry, as he uses elite speed and strength. Reiland will play college football at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

WR —John Marshall

6-2 —185 —Junior

Noteworthy: Williams was unstoppable for a long stretch of games, continually finishing with more than 100 yards receiving. He finished top three in the state during the regular season in receiving yards (889), and had a gaudy 21.7 per-catch average. Williams displayed great hands, speed and jumping ability and was extremely physical after the catch. He was also a punishing blocker.

WR —Zumbrota-Mazeppa

6-2 —180 —Junior

Noteworthy: Tesmer finished with 28 receptions for 608 yards and eight touchdowns. He also carried the ball 17 times for 228 yards and three touchdowns, showing his overall athleticism. Tesmer is also one of the area's top kickers.

WR —Lake City

5-10 —165 —Senior

Noteworthy: One of the best route runners around and with a knack for getting open. Narum had 37 receptions for 513 yards and five touchdowns.

OL —Chatfield

6-0 —200 —Senior

Noteworthy: Hinckley was voted the Southeast District's Lineman of the Year. He did it after averaging 2.5 pancake blocks per game. Hinckley is a two-time all-district player.

OL —Byron

6-1 —270 —Senior

Noteworthy: Jones was named the Skyway Brass Offensive Lineman of the Year. He paved the way for the Bears to average 37.3 points per game as he anchored things at center. A great leader and student of the game. Jones is considering several Division III options for playing in college.

OL —Stewartville

6-1 —225 —Senior

Noteworthy: A two-year starter at offensive tackle for the excellent Tigers. One of the most complete offensive linemen that Stewartville has had, according to Tigers coach Garrett Mueller.

OL —John Marshall

6-5 —345 —Senior

Noteworthy: Molina's massive frame matched his massive presence on the football field. He dominated in the run game, paving the way for JM to rush for 150 yards per game and 7 yards per attempt. In the passing game, he allowed just one sack in 172 pass attempts. Molina will play next year at NAIA Waldorf University.

OL —Byron

6-1 —270 —Junior

Noteworthy: Edwards has already attracted the attention of several FCS and Division II schools thanks to his talents. He blocked for a running attack that averaged 7.1 yards per carry and allowed just four sacks all season. Has a natural toughness about him.

DL —Kasson-Mantorville

5-10 —195 —Senior

Noteworthy: Peterson-Gordon made the shift from defensive back to defensive line this season. He did it with aplomb, finishing with 24 solo tackles, 27 assists, 9.5 sacks, 17 hurries, 2 forced fumbles and 3 blocked punts for safeties.

DL —Kasson-Mantorville

6-0 —240 —Senior

Noteworthy: Grover was a beast in the middle of K-M's defensive line, finishing with 40 solo tackles, 43 assists, 6 sacks, 5 hurries and 1 fumble recovery.

DL —Pine Island

6-3 —215 —Senior

Noteworthy: Grobe was selected as his district's co-Defensive Player of the Year as well as Lineman of the Year. He finished with 54 tackles, 6 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 16 tackles for loss. He was the second leading tackler on a Pine Island defense that allowed 33 total points prior to the state tournament.

DL —Goodhue

6-2 —230 —Junior

Noteworthy: Playing defensive end, the big and agile O'Reilly piled up 22 solo tackles, 68 assists, 12 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles and recovered two fumbles. O'Reilly was a big reason that Goodhue reached the Prep Bowl.

LB —Mayo

5-9 —185 —Senior

Noteworthy: Kipp was one of the most productive linebackers in the state, finishing third in total tackles with 103. He had 64 solos and 39 assists, as well as one sack and one interception.

LB —Lourdes

5-10 —180 —Senior

Noteworthy: Long-time Lourdes coach Mike Kesler calls Lovely the best pure tackler he's ever coached. He finished with 90 tackles this season, 9 for loss, 3 sacks and 2 interceptions. The two-year captain was a four-year starter.

LB —Zumbrota-Mazeppa

6-2 —200 —Junior

Noteworthy: Boraas, also one of the top quarterbacks in the area, showed he's also one of its top middle linebackers. The junior had 54 solo tackles and 20 assists. He also had three tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

LB —LeRoy-Ostrander/Lyle-Austin Pacelli

5-10 —185 —Senior

Noteworthy: Roe put up some massive numbers: 121 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. He was the heart and soul of his team's defense.

LB —Plainview-Elgin-Millville

5-10 —165 —Senior

Noteworthy: Ford was a tackling machine, finishing with 121 of them. He had 12 tackles for loss, 5 sacks and 1 blocked kick. Had a nose for the football.

DB —Byron

6-1 —195 —Senior

Noteworthy: Heimer, also our Post Bulletin All-Area Player of the Year, was the most impactful defensive back and running back in the area, but we'll choose him as a defensive back for the All-Area Team. With blazing speed and elite strength, combined with toughness, he owned the back end of the football field. Heimer finished with 52 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, 6 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery. He did all of that despite missing his team's final three games with an injury. Heimer, a huge hitter, will play next season at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

DB —Triton

6-5 —205 —Senior

Noteworthy: Petersohn is ranked as high as No. 2 in Minnesota in terms of potential recruits. He committed to Penn State but then flipped to Virginia Tech. Petersohn shined at safety for the Cobras, where he intercepted a pair of passes, had 15 solo tackles and 22 assists, and had few balls thrown his direction for fear he'd pick them off. Petersohn goes down as Triton's all-time best all-around athlete, also among the state's best in basketball and track and field.

DB —Chatfield

5-9 —150 —Senior

Noteworthy: Johnson, who's been selected to play in the Minnesota All-Star Game, finished with four interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He also broke up 13 passes and had 41 solo tackles and 52 assists.

Kicker —Mayo

5-10 —145 —Freshman

Noteworthy: In his first year as a starter, Ties' prep career is off to a great start. He finished 29 for 30 on extra-point kicks and hit field goals from 45, 35, 20, 20, 24, 15 and 26 yards. He missed just two field goals all year and had two kicks that were game-winners.

Kick returner —Kasson-Mantorville

5-10 —175 —Sophomore

Noteworthy: 10 returns for 411 yards, an average of 41.1 yards per return. Returned three for touchdowns.

QB —Stewartville

5-11 —170 —Senior

Noteworthy: Wellik, a deadly accurate passer, had his second straight outstanding season. He completed 66% of his passes (101-for-152) for 1,252 yards, 16 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He did all of that despite having brand-new starters around him at all of Stewartville's skill positions.

RB —Stewartville

5-10 —165 —Senior

Noteworthy: A dynamic running back who was extremely versatile, Abdi ran for 1,088 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging nearly 6 yards per carry and his 18 rushing TDs is tied for third all-time at Stewartville.

RB —Fillmore Central

6-1 —188 —Senior

Noteworthy: A state wrestling champion, Larson can also play some football. He rushed for 1,336 yards and 25 touchdowns. Larson averaged 7 yards per carry. He was a leader on the field who elevated the play of those around him.

WR —Pine Island

6-3 —170 —Senior

Noteworthy: Harstad was a player who demanded double teams as a receiver. He was well known for his contested and highlight catches. Harstad finished with 541 yards receiving with eight touchdowns. His longest catch went for 71 yards.

WR —Mayo

5-10 —175 —Senior

Noteworthy: In his third year as a starter, Durgin finished the season with 37 catches, 511 yards and four touchdowns.

WR —LeRoy-Ostrander/Lyle-Austin Pacelli

5-11 —160 —Senior

Noteworthy: Lewison was the heart and soul of the LOLAP team this season and did much of his work at wide receiver. He finished with 54 receptions for 879 yards and 9 touchdowns. That's better than 16 yards per catch.

OL —Mayo

6-2 —305 —Junior

Noteworthy: At 6-2, 305 pounds, Loomis is as strong as an ox. Still just a junior, he's already in his third year as a starter.

OL —Spring Grove

6-2 —305 —Senior

Noteworthy: Moen was the top offensive lineman for a team that rushed for more than 1,800 yards and passed for 1,200 yards. He's receiving interest from a pack of Division III schools.

OL —Fillmore Central

6-1 —247 —Senior

Noteworthy: Niemeyer played guard on a dominant offensive line. He was the leader of a group that paved the way for massive rushing numbers by the Falcons.

OL —Plainview-Elgin-Millville

6-8 —305 —Senior

Noteworthy: This mountain of a man isn't done playing football. He has signed to play at Division I University of Northern Iowa for next year. Hynes is a physical force who has a bit of a nasty streak, wanting to get his opponents to the ground.

OL —Blooming Prairie

6-1 —240 —Senior

Noteworthy: A three-year starter on the offensive line, Johnson was a versatile one, playing all three positions along the line. He was responsible for making all the line calls and helping the younger players next to him.

DL —John Marshall

5-11 —200 —Senior

Noteworthy: Lukong was a versatile player for JM, rarely leaving the field. He totaled 49 solo tackles from his defensive end spot, 11 assists, 5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. Lukong has a fierceness that he plays with as well as excellent acceleration. His pursuit of the football never stops.

DL —Lewiston-Altura

Noteworthy: Merchlewitz was the leader of his football team and a four-year starter. He had 16 solo tackles, 32 assists, 4 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 1 interception, 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery.

DL —Mayo

6-0 —190 —Senior

Noteworthy: Werneburg was a menace on defense, using his speed and strength to total seven sacks. The 190-pound senior had 21 total tackles for a Mayo team that reached the state tournament.

DL —Byron

6-0 —290 —Senior

Noteworthy: Brakke was chosen as the Skyway Brass Defensive Lineman of the Year. At nose guard, he anchored the Bears' stout defensive line. Brakke has great strength and size and is also quite agile and quick. He pursues the football extremely well.

LB —Caledonia

6-3 —215 —Sophomore

Noteworthy: Just a sophomore, Allen shows all the signs of rounding into a star linebacker. He's got the size (6-3, 215) and the movement already. He finished the season with 114 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles for a Caledonia team that reached the state tournament.

LB —Stewartville

6-3 —215 —Senior

Noteworthy: Spencer led his outstanding Stewartville team in tackles with 57 solos. He also had 5 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 1 interception. An extremely smart and physical player.

LB —Zumbrota-Mazeppa

6-3 —180 —Senior

Noteworthy: Arendt was the "straw that stirred Z-M's drink," according to Cougars coach Darin Raasch. This team leader finished with 65 solo tackles, 23 assists, 6 tackles for loss and 2 interceptions. He was also named Academic All-State.

LB —Goodhue

6-0 —220 —Senior

Noteworthy: Carlson was the heart and soul of a Goodhue team that made it through the regular season unbeaten and then all the way to the Prep Bowl. Big and physical, Carlson had 23 solo tackles, 39 assists, 2 tackles for loss and 1 sack.

DB —Triton

6-2 —195 —Junior

Noteworthy: Thomas is already getting serious recruiting attention, including from Division I programs Wisconsin, North Dakota State and South Dakota State. At safety this past season he had 23 solo tackles and 44 assists.

DB —Goodhue

6-2 —170 —Senior

Noteworthy: Also a wizard at quarterback for a Goodhue team that advanced to the Prep Bowl, Roschen was terrific at defensive back. Taking advantage of his speed and quickness, he had 11 solo tackles, 12 assists, 2 interceptions, 4 pass breakups, 2 tackles for loss and 1 sack.

6-1 —170 —Senior

Noteworthy: Underbakke was the true leader of his team, which reached the state tournament. As a safety, he had 50 solo tackles, 76 assists and a whopping 9 interceptions.
