December Should Be A Great Month For Mission: Impossible Fans

Mission: Impossible came to an end over six months ago, but December 2025 is expected to be a great month to be a fan of Tom Cruise's franchise.

For nearly 30 years, Tom Cruise has been at the epicenter of the Mission: Impossible franchise and made it his goal to entertain audiences with daring, death-defying practical stunts. Playing IMF agent Ethan Hunt across eight movies that made over $4.7 billion worldwide has become a career defining role for the action movie star.

Yet, this blockbuster series reached its potential conclusion earlier this year with Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning coming out in theaters at long last. The film debuted exclusively on the big screen on May 23. The response was overall very positive.

Critics praised the film, earning it an 80% Rotten Tomatoes score, while audiences liked it a bit more, as it has an 88% Popcornmeter rating. The Final Reckoning's box office reflects the appreciation, as it made $598 million worldwide, good for fourth place on the franchise's all-time ranking and a top 10 tally for 2025 (as of now).

It's now been over six months since The Final Reckoning came out and gave fans a chance to celebrate the long-running series. Luckily, there's a great likelihood the Mission: Impossible franchise gets its last moment in the spotlight shortly.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning Should Release On Streaming In December

Once The Final Reckoning left theaters in August, anyone wanting to watch the movie has had to use VOD services or buy it on physical media. Despite being more than 180 days post-release, Cruise's movie has not made its debut on streaming. That's largely unheard of in today's Hollywood landscape where studios have shrunken theatrical windows.

Paramount Pictures has not announced anything officially regarding when the movie will hit Paramount+, but there's a strong chance that this changes soon. The studio's history with the franchise suggests that The Final Reckoning's streaming release will take place in December.

Paramount has the shortest average release gap between theaters and streaming among all the major studios, with a two-month difference the standard for their films. Yet, Mission: Impossible has been an entirely different beast.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning defied practically every metric; it took 197 days to go to streaming after debuting in theaters. That's easily the longest gap for a Paramount movie since the start of 2023 and one of the longest for any movie from any studio in the same range.

Considering we're already past the 180-day mark for The Final Reckoning, it appears Cruise and Paramount are following a similar schedule that they did with Dead Reckoning. That makes sense considering they were developed as a two-part project, so any deals about streaming timing were likely made in tandem.

If the last Mission: Impossible movie gets the exact same 197-day gap as its predecessor, then The Final Reckoning projects to make its streaming debut in December. More specifically, it would be December 6. But since that is a Saturday and studios tend to debut movies on streaming on Fridays, a 196-day gap may be what happens, putting it on Paramount+ on December 5.

Even if that exact date doesn't come to fruition, it would be a real shock if Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning isn't streaming at some point in December. Once it is, there will be another chance for fans of this franchise, like myself, to revisit the conclusion and praise the series' entire history.
