Stanley Kubrick’s body of work requires no introduction among film lovers. The director is widely regarded as one of the most influential filmmakers of all time, whose 13 features garnered critical praise, scandalized and wowed theater-going audiences, and earned numerous accolades, including the Academy Awards, taking home, surprisingly, only one win (2001: A Space Odyssey) out of the 13 nominations. Now, nearly five decades since it first released in theaters, Collider is proud to partner with IMAX and Warner Bros. to offer fans an exciting opportunity to see Kubrick’s 1980 masterpiece, The Shining, formatted for the biggest screen for the first time ever. Famously adapted from Stephen King’s novel, The Shining stars Jack Nicholson as the disturbed author and former alcoholic Jack Torrance, who packs up his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and their young son Danny (Danny Lloyd) for a caretaker position in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Jack becomes the winter caretaker for the sprawling, remote Overlook Hotel during its off-season. Here, the family is isolated until spring, with Wendy and Danny wandering the empty halls and playing on the grounds, and Jack becoming increasingly irritable as he’s determined to pen his next novel. Not long into their stay, however, their psychic son begins receiving frightening visions of the gruesome atrocities that took place years ago, while Jack sympathizes with a mysterious and malicious presence. Outside, the weather threatens to trap them in the Overlook with no escape.
