By Cole SullivanShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberWith the college football regular season coming to an end, several programs that failed to reach postseason eligibility are now shifting their focus to next year.
For many, that means beginning the search for a new head coach — something we’ve seen plenty of over the past 24 to 48 hours. The latest move came out of the SEC, where the Kentucky Wildcats parted ways with Mark Stoops.
On Monday, according to On3, two rumored candidates for the job emerged, including Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline, one of the brightest young coaching talents in college football.

More news: Major SEC Program Comes to Final Decision on Next Head Coach: Report
The Buckeyes are gearing up not only for the Big Ten Championship this weekend against the No. 2 Indiana Hoosiers, but also for the College Football Playoff later this month as they look to go back-to-back.
Hartline has played a pivotal role in Ohio State’s success in recent years on Ryan Day’s staff. While this is his first year as the program’s primary offensive coordinator, he spent several seasons as the wide receivers coach and has been largely responsible for the elite talent that continues to flow through Columbus.
From Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave to Marvin Harrison Jr., Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and now Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate, Hartline has consistently brought some of the nation’s best playmakers to Ohio State.
...While a move from Columbus to Lexington wouldn’t be a huge leap geographically—since the cities are roughly three hours apart—it would still be a major step for Hartline, moving from first-year OC to head coach in the SEC.
