Indianapolis Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner exited Sunday's game early with what was reported as a calf strain by the NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

After the game, Gardner echoed that report, saying that he believed the injury was a strain and avoided major injury.

"I think it's like a strain," Gardner said, via ESPN's Stephen Holder. "I feel like I got shot in the calf or something, but it was like high. So I wasn't thinking the worst."

So how much time could Gardner end up missing?

According to Jordan Schultz, Gardner suffered what was described as a "mild calf strain."

The injury could sideline Gardner for "a couple of weeks," Schultz said. Gardner will be getting a second opinion as well.

In Gardner's first two games with the Colts, he has allowed five receptions on 10 targets for 38 yards with two pass breakups. He's also made 12 tackles.

With Gardner, the Colts have become a very man-coverage-heavy defense.

Without Gardner for most of Sunday's game, both Mekhi Blackmon and Jaylon Jones saw playing time at cornerback opposite of Charvarius Ward.

Up next for the Colts are back-to-back road games against Jacksonville and Seattle, followed by a home game against San Francisco.

The lead that they had built up in the AFC South race is now gone.
