For programs still searching for a head coach, the process is now accelerating. Following Sunday morning’s news that Lane Kiffin intends to leave Ole Miss for LSU, coaching moves started coming quickly.
The Arkansas Razorbacks, who fired Sam Pittman on Sept. 28, have made a final decision on their next head coach.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Arkansas has hired Ryan Silverfield, who spent the past six seasons with the Memphis Tigers. During that span, Silverfield went 56-20, building Memphis into one of the top Group of Five programs in the nation.

It had previously been reported that South Florida head coach Alex Golesh was the frontrunner for the Arkansas job, but according to On3’s Brett McMurphy, that was never the case.
The Razorbacks had been focused on Ryan Silverfield all along, and now they have one of the brightest up-and-coming coaches in college football to lead the rebuilding of a program that has struggled over the past several seasons.
...Shortly after Silverfield was hired, Alex Golesh landed another SEC job of his own, agreeing to a sixi-year deal to become the next head coach of the Auburn Tigers. Moments later, the Florida Gators hired Jon Sumrall from Tulane, creating a domino effect across the conference.
Interestingly, in head-to-head matchups, Silverfield’s Memphis teams went 3-0 against Golesh’s South Florida squads, which could set up some intriguing storylines in the SEC next season.
