Miami Dolphins tight end Darren Waller will have his practice window to return from injured reserve opened Wednesday, head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Monday.

Waller, 33, caught four touchdown passes in his first three games with the Dolphins before suffering a pectoral injury early in Week 7. The veteran tight end spent the 2024 season in retirement before he was acquired by Miami in a July trade.

With his practice window opened, the Dolphins will have 21 days to move him to the active roster. If he's still not ready to play after three weeks, Waller would revert to the injured reserve and his 2025 season would be over.

The Dolphins can use the return of Waller, as Tua Tagovailoa's list of weapons doesn't have much depth. Only four players on the team have seen at least a dozen targets and that includes wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who was lost for the season due to a knee injury.

Waller, who earned Pro Bowl honors during his 2020 season with the Las Vegas Raiders, has 10 receptions for 117 yards so far this season.
