After weeks of speculation, we finally have some clarity in Florida's coaching search. After firing Billy Napier after four seasons, Florida Athletic Director Scott Stricklin has reportedly closed in on another Group of Five head coach to replace him.

The Green Wave will play Charlotte on Saturday night, and go to the AAC title game with a victory. Tulane would face North Texas with a win over the 49ers.
Thamel added that Sumrall is also in the mix for the Auburn job, but the Tigers have "shifted to other candidates" with Sumrall appearing to be the favorite in Gainesville. Sumrall emerging comes just a day after Florida reportedly moved on from Lane Kiffin. Although the Gators were reportedly in the mix in landing the Rebels' head coach, Stricklin had reported to be casting a wide net in coach interviews.
Sumrall is 41-11 overall as a head coach, leading Troy to a pair of double-digit win seasons in 2022 and 2023. Sumrall led Troy to back-to-back Sun Belt titles in 2022 and 2023. He led Tulane to a 9-3 season in 2024, with an AAC title game appearance. The Green Wave are 9-2 so far in 2025, with a chance to win the AAC for the first time since 2022.
