Despite being some of the biggest names in the world of British entertainment — not to mention being two people who have helped create some of the best modern adaptations of Sherlock Holmes — actor Benedict Cumberbatch and director Guy Ritchie have never worked together before. Thankfully, that's about to change with the upcoming comedic thriller, Wife & Dog, which boasts an astounding ensemble cast including Rosamund Pike, Anthony Hopkins, Paddy Considine, Cosmo Jarvis, and more. Apart from that, the project has been shrouded in secrecy, but Cumberbatch has finally shed more light on the project.

While promoting his newest movie, The Thing with Feathers, Cumberbatch revealed to us how Wife & Dog feels like an elevated version of Ritchie's strengths as a filmmaker. He even compared his lead character to the likes of two frequent regulars in Ritchie's filmography — Jason Statham and Tom Hardy. He told Collider:

"There are definitely elements to his genre, but I don't know. I think he's kind of augmented it with a really new flavor. I don't really want to give much away, but it's quite unique for him. It's quite unique. It's a very soulful piece. And yeah, an extraordinary cast that I got to work with, and a very different ask for me to be the kind of geezer Tom Hardy, Jason Statham type role. It was a blast. I mean, I love him. He's very uncompromising, very who he is. It's just very straightforward working with him. You know where you are. He’s a lovely fellow. He’s great."

A more than fair comparison, given that both Statham and Hardy have had a huge impact on Ritchie's career. Statham has been working with the director almost since the very beginning, with his beloved feature films Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. As for Hardy, Ritchie found tremendous success with him, along with Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren, for his smash-hit crime series, MobLand.

What's Next for Guy Ritchie?

Benedict Cumberbatch's first collaboration with Guy Ritchie in Wife & Dog is one of his most exciting upcoming projects, but it's not the only one in the works. Also on the horizon is the action flick In the Grey, which will reunite Ritchie with his The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare star Henry Cavill, and he'll even be reuniting with Jason Statham for Viva la Madness, which is another thrilling project based on the novel that is also a sequel to the fan-favorite Layer Cake. If that's not enough, second seasons of both MobLand and The Gentlemen are also on the way.

What Is 'The Thing with Feathers' About?

Wife & Dog is still a ways off, but one movie that fans of Cumberbatch should absolutely check out is The Thing with Feathers, which might be his most vulnerable and distinctly human movie of the year. The film stars Cumberbatch as a newly single father who has recently become the sole caregiver for his two sons, until a mysterious crow-like creature (voiced by David Thewlis) begins to cause trouble for the new family. While that may sound like a psychological horror flick in the making (and in many ways it is), the result is a fascinating character study featuring a memorable monster who, in our conversation, Cumberbatch described as a wonderful mix between "Tyler Durden and Mary Poppins."

Benedict Cumberbatch's The Thing with Feathers isin select theaters starting November 28. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on Benedict Cumberbatch and Guy Ritchie's Wife & Dog.
