Newegg is taking preorders for a $50 WD 5TB My Passport for Mac (in blue) portable external hard disk drive, a whopping 68% off its $160 sticker price.

This fantastic Black Friday deal will only be available later today from 9am PT and will last as long as stock is available. You can only buy two, and hundreds of people have already loaded their baskets with this superb offer.

I’ve never seen any hard drive selling for less than $10/TB and this is the first one to achieve this, albeit in very limited numbers. The fact that it is both portable and a 2.5-inch model only enhances its value as an exceptional deal.

Despite being designed for Mac, you should be able to use it across Windows, Mac, and Chromebook devices. The 5TB capacity is large enough for backing up large photo and video collections, work archives, and even game libraries.

We reviewed the 6TB version of the drive a while back and said it performed well. We had a slight issue with the robustness of the USB 3.2 microB connector but I think it is a minor point. Overall we gave it a highly recommended award.
