By Maria Azzurra VolpeShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberIn a heartbreaking Facebook video, a shelter dog who was returned because she didn’t get along with her owners’ cat gets a day out with a volunteer—and loves every minute of it.
The viral clip, shared on Tuesday by the Humane Society of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, shows the 1-and-a-half-year-old pup taking a bath, going for a walk, and even getting a yummy pup cup during a day of fun with a volunteer.
“For over 150 days Bridget has watched family after family walk right past her. She is only 1-and-a-half-years-old. Still a puppy. Still learning about the world. And she is growing up in a cage instead of a home," the caption reads.
“To help keep her spirits up, our wonderful volunteer treated Bridget to a special day out of the shelter, so she could make new friends, enjoy yummy treats and get lots of TLC.”
...The shelter told Newsweek that after being transferred from the county shelter, Bridget was adopted but returned because she didn’t get along with the adopters’ cat.
“She may enjoy a doggie friend, but a meet and greet is always recommended," the shelter said, “Here's the thing about Bridget...she's wicked smart! The teen campers at the Humane Society of Broward County taught her sit, down, spin, and give paw all in under an hour. She loves playing fetch, squeaky toys, treats, and learning new tricks.”
Now the young pup is looking for someone who understands her energy and heart, and who can give her the life she deserves.
“The shelter is a hard place for a young dog with energy and a big heart," the post says. “She does not understand why she keeps getting left behind. She tries so hard to be brave but she is starting to feel defeated. She has been here longer than any other dog and she cannot take much more of this life in a kennel."
Potential adopters won’t even have to pay a fee to take the sweet pup home, as her adoption fee has already been paid.
The video quickly went viral on social media, garnering over 12,200 likes and 885 comments.
One user, Christina Trivett, commented: “She looks extremely intelligent... will make a fantastic dog for someone. “
Beth Piana said: “Look at this sweet fur baby!! All she wants is a loving, furever home of her own. Let’s all share her story so her dream can come true.”
Jillian Alexandra wrote: “Not to be dramatic but I would die for Bridget.”
