After finding themselves in the 21-0 hole, the expectation was the Dallas Cowboys would fold and allow the Philadelphia Eagles to blow them out of the building.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIt was fair to expect that, as we've seen that scenario play out time and time again in recent years with the Cowboys, especially in games against the Eagles.
However, the Cowboys did the unthinkable and shut out the Eagles the rest of the way and scored 24 unanswered points to secure the 24-21 victory in overtime.
How improbable was the Cowboys' comeback win?
According to The Athletic's Jon Machota, the Cowboys had a less than 4% chance to win the game after falling behind 21-0 late in the second qurater. It amounts to the most improbable win for Dallas in the last decade.
"The Dallas Cowboys had less than a 4% chance of winning late in the second quarter," Machota shared.

After all, the Cowboys entered the game with one of the worst defenses in the NFL and needed the unit to play perfect for two-plus quarters.
Meanwhile, the offense was tasked with scoring 24 points against an Eagles defense that is one of the better units in the NFL, at least in terms of points allowed.
Now, the hope is that this win will be a turning point and stepping stone for the Cowboys becoming a different team in the weeks ahead.
