Lakers 'have continued to monitor' former All-Star wing, NBA champion

Ever since early this summer, there have been plenty of rumors and reports that the Los Angeles Lakers have been interested in trading for Andrew Wiggins of the Miami Heat. Wiggins, a 30-year-old, 6-foot-6 two-way wing, was a key member of the Golden State Warriors when they last won the NBA championship in 2022, and he was an All-Star starter that same season.

It appears that the Lakers have been turned off by the Heat's price for acquiring Wiggins. But according to NBA insider Jake Fischer, they "have continued to monitor" the veteran in case he becomes available at some point.

Wiggins is averaging 16.7 points a game while shooting 48.1% from the field and 36.5% from 3-point range this season. However, the Heat aren't exactly struggling. They currently hold an 11-6 record and are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, and they're second in fast-break points per game and first in overall points per game.

If the Lakers, who are 12-4 after defeating the Utah Jazz on Sunday, continue to be successful as the Feb. 5, 2026 trade deadline approaches, perhaps they will be more motivated to pay up a little more in order to secure an upgrade or two from the trade market.
