The Dallas Cowboys notched a huge victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday that provided a boost to the team's chances of making the postseason.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAfter a 3-5-1 first half of the season, the Cowboys are 3-0 since their bye week and have notched back-to-back wins against last year's Super Bowl teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
According to the New York Times' Playoff Simulator, the Cowboys now hold a 24% chance to make the postseason, although their chances of winning the NFC East are still very slim at 3%.
Bear in mind, this situation is still fluid, as the results of this weekend's games could send those percentages in either direction.
It's not hard to see why the Cowboys' odds are that low, as they're still trailing Philly by two in the win column before the Eagles' Friday contest against the Chicago Bears.

Dallas can't end this week any higher than No. 9.
What that playoff simulator doesn't measure is the serious amount of momentum the Cowboys are rolling with moving forward and how Dallas looks like a totally different team than the one that dug this current hole in the first place.
Granted, the Cowboys still have a lot of work to do, but that head of steam will only help Dallas overcome its deficits in the NFC East and conference playoff picture.

However, the Week 14 game against the Detroit Lions is particularly important, as Detroit is one of the teams the Cowboys have to get past to move into a playoff spot.
While it'll be a tough matchup, the Lions have looked like a shell of the 15-2 team we saw last season. As a result, the ascending Cowboys have a good chance to extend their winning streak to four games next Thursday.
