A Slow Horses star's newest Netflix movie, has become an instant streaming hit, succeeding globally within days of its release on the platform. Netflix's original romantic comedies are an underappreciated cornerstone of the platform. The streamer has released a multitude of memorable entries over the years, from The Princess Switch trilogy to the Emily in Paris TV series.
Their latest venture into the genre is Champagne Problems, a Christmas-themed rom-com starring Minka Kelly and Tom Wozniczka. The plot follows American businesswoman Sydney Price (Kelly) as she goes to France to buy out a globally-beloved champagne brand. However, she ends up falling for Henri Cassell (Wozniczka), who turns out to be the son of the champagne company's founder.
The movie was released globally on November 19, 2025. According to Netflix's data for November 24, Champagne Problems has already reached Number 1 on their global charts. In an impressive feat, the rom-com is also Number 1 in 58 countries, including the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Poland, Switzerland, and Ukraine.
Champagne Problems has received relatively positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. While the movie doesn't have a Rotten Tomatoes score as of writing, six of the eight existing reviews are positive. As for the audience score, the movie holds a 6.2 out of 10 on IMDb based on around 2,900 reviews, signaling a generally positive reception to the film.
While Wozniczka is best known for his recurring role as Patrice on the cast of Slow Horses, a far cry given its nature as a crime thriller, he's perfect as Henri in the movie. While the roles are different, he still manages to be a memorable presence onscreen, offering an essential performance for the holiday love story.
Champagne Problems was written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson, best known for romantic comedy films such as 2010's When in Rome with Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel, and 2022's Love in the Villa, another Netflix original starring Kat Graham and Tom Hopper. While both films will critically panned, his latest appears to be getting much better reception overall.
This makes Champagne Problems' success on Netflix all the more understandable, as it's a standout for both its stars, and its writer-director. The movie's performance is only based on the first few days, but with the holidays fast approaching, its Christmas themes will no doubt help bolster its popularity throughout the season.
