A Reddit user’s Thanksgiving took a different turn when they asked their brother to watch the turkey while out running errands—prompting laughter at what they came back home to.

In a viral post shared on Thursday under the username u/PsychotropicPanda, the poster wrote: “Asked my brother to watch my turkey, came back to this.”

A picture shared with the post shows how they found the turkey once they got back home, and it’s not at all what they expected. Though cooked perfectly, the turkey looked like it had been ravaged by a wild animal.

“Spent all day getting things ready for an early Thanksgiving morning with my kids. I work all the time and finally got today to battle the town and get the last-minute things," they said.

“Got this turkey done and covered. Drained the drippings and everything. I left it covered in the oven, to rest, and asked my brother to take it out at 11:00 or so. Then I was coming home to deal with it. Came home to this. Yay.”

...

In the comments section, the poster clarified after dinner that they ended up cutting the turkey and placing it in a container, so it wasn’t that much of a big deal in the end, though they still felt a little mad at their brother.

“I love my brother, I do, but man I really want to punch him in his face. I really spent a lot of my time, I don't have much of, on this thing. I just wanted one good picture at least," they wrote.

“He said he would buy me another one. Anyways! Happy thanksgiving everyone! And be thankful for what you do have, even if your drunken brother eats a chunk of it like a wild man.”

A YouGov poll shared last week said that this year, 86 percent of Americans planned on celebrating Thanksgiving, and 75 percent said they’d celebrate it with at least a family member.

Many Americans, about 32 percent said they would have between one and five people at their celebrations, and 28 percent said they’d have between six and 10 people. Only 8 percent of Americans said they were expecting more than 16 people at their Thanksgiving table this year.

About 29 percent of Americans said their Thanksgiving plans were affected by price increases—down from 37 percent last year—this affected mostly families with an annual income under $50,000.
