There was something of a blockbuster yesterday in baseball with the Rangers and Mets reportedly finishing a trade that sends Brandon Nimmo down south to Texas and Marcus Semien up to Queens to improve their defense. There are sums of money that need to be exchanged, but it looks like for the most part, the deal is done.
Simple question: who wins the deal? The Rangers wanted to switch things up with their team and Nimmo does have the ability to get on base pretty regularly. His defense isn’t great and probably shouldn’t be in center field, but he still does have his usefulness. Semien has seen his bat slip these past few years, but the steady presence at second defensively is something the Mets are looking for. It’s a pretty substantial deal this early, but an interesting one nonetheless.
