Ireland bounced back from two heavy Test defeats to win the first Twenty20 International with Bangladesh by 39 runs in Chattogram.

Batting first, Harry Tector's unbeaten 69 helped put Ireland in a strong position as they scored 181, with the loss of only four wickets.

Matthew Humphreys then claimed four wickets as Ireland tore the hosts' batting order apart.

Barry McCarthy also took three wickets as Bangladesh could only score 142 to lose by 39 runs.

"We turned up really well today," said Irish captain Paul Stirling.

"That's as close to full strength as we've had in a long time in the T20. We welcomed back some senior figures and it showed today. We came out on top."

The second of three T20s between the sides will take place on Saturday.

Ireland started well at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Cricket Stadium and had 40 runs on the board by the time opener Paul Stirling was dismissed on 21.

The Tector brothers, Tim and Harry, set about extending Ireland's tally to 71 before the former was eventually out on 32.

Lorcan Tucker and the remaining Tector brother helped Ireland past a ton, and Ireland were in a strong position of 105 when Tucker was caught off Tanzim Hasan Sakib's delivery.

Curtis Campher was dismissed in the 17th over with Ireland on 142, but the partnership of Tector, who would end on an unbeaten 69, and George Dockrell helped Ireland to 181.

Bangladesh would have looked for a strong response but their top batting order was decimated by the Irish bowlers.

Tanzid Hasan Tamim (two) was dismissed by Humphreys in the penultimate ball of first over, while the loss of wickets for Litton Kumer Das (one) and Parvez Hossain Emon (one), both from Mark Adair's deliveries, left the hosts on 5-3 midway through the third over.

Saif Hassan was the next to fall on six as he was bowled by McCarthy, and although the superb Tawhid Hridoy almost kept Bangladesh in the contest with 89, Humphreys claimed the wickets of Tanzim (five), Rishad Hossain and Nasum Ahmed (both without a run), while McCarthy completed a treble of his own by taking Jaker Ali Anik (20) and Shoriful Islam (12) as Bangladesh fell well short of the Irish tally.
