There are some brilliant minds in this great game we love, offensive and defensive geniuses. How have we taken so much time to dissect the Philadelphia Eagles and their opponents, the Chicago Bears, without discussing the chess match we'll see between two trailblazers?

We've complimented Bears head coach Ben Johnson ad nauseam. We've dedicated thousands of words and hundreds of sentences to detailing Vic Fangio's brilliance.

They meet on Black Friday. How many times have we outlined every defensive coordinator who has constructed part of their scheme while borrowing from his? Philadelphia knows this well. Take Jonathan Gannon, for instance.

J.G. studied the Fangio blueprint. Say what you will about how things ended, but the Birds almost set the single-season sack record under his watch.

Somewhere, Coach Fangio is taping his wrists and hands before a slugfest with one of the NFL's most imaginative offensive minds. Johnson resurrected Jared Goff from the ashes, and now, he's fixed Caleb Williams. Next up is that aforementioned chess match with Philadelphia's beloved defensive coordinator, Coach Fangio.

"It's a great scheme. They do a great job calling the game, mixing it up, and marrying their run and pass games. They're highly ranked in many areas, and I don't think it's an accident. They've got outstanding players, and it's a great scheme and a great play caller."

Those were Coach Fangio's words, thoughts shared during a recent media sit-down. Fangio is old school. He has tremendous respect for the game, and one thing we've learned is that he isn't shy about giving credit when he feels it's due.

"Ben does a good job of mixing it up. They package things well together. They play multiple personnel groups, and they're under center a good bit, probably more than most teams in this league. Kudos to him and his staff for bringing that young quarterback (Williams) along who I don't think ever played under center in college. He's doing a great job, and they have fought through any of the pitfalls of that and now they've got a quarterback that is executing their offense the way they want to."

The Birds have a massive test on their hands, on both sides of the ball. Philadelphia's offense faces Dennis Allen's defense, one that leads the NFL with 24 takeaways.

The Eagles' defense must limit Caleb Williams, D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze, and the rest of the team. Lincoln Financial Field will be draped in black, but as dangerous as Williams is wth his arm, he's equally dangerous with his legs. That isn't a thought that's lost on Fangio.

"It's an added dimension to their offense. We've talked about how good their offense is, and now with him, there's going to be plays where you have to defend a second play that he's creating with his scrambling. He's a high-level scrambler. He's strong. He's fast. He's got good instincts when he is scrambling. It's tough."

Again, this is Vic Fangio vs. Ben Johnson. Even if you didn't have a dog in the fight, this is must-see television for any self-respecting football fan.
