Nov. 26—It may not be apparent to the average observer of the Austin boys hockey team, but the Packers do have a current co-op with Southland High School.

Although if you were at Tuesday's game against Rochester Lourdes, you couldn't have missed it.

Although Southland only has a few players on the Austin roster, they were well represented in the crowd by a big group of their peers, who made the 12-mile trek to cheer on their classmates on the ice.

With basketball and wrestling schedules colliding on the same nights as hockey, the Southland supporters aren't always able to make it to Packer boys hockey games, but they were very supportive on Tuesday.

It's a small, but meaningful gesture, for students to venture into sport and school they may not be familiar with, all in the name of showing their peers that they care.

The more support a player or team gets, the more meaningful the games become, and the more they will get out of a high school athlete. If they were just playing games in front of parents and grandparents, it wouldn't be much different from a youth sports event.

So if you're a high school athlete, or any high school student for that matter, be sure to get out there and cheer on your peers this winter. The impact may be much bigger than you realize.
