Ian Begley: Something to clarify on Landry Shamet: even if Knicks decided to waive him before his deal is fully guaranteed (they won’t), NYK is still obligated to pay Shamet’s salary while he’s hurt. Team that waives injured player on nonguaranteed deal is obligated to play player for duration of rehab/recovery. So there is no financial benefit to Knicks for waiving Shamet while he’s hurt. Clarifying here because there is some speculation about NYK saving money by waiving Knicks the veteran guard/forward. Shamet has shoulder sprain and will be re-evaluated in four weeks. There is optimism that he can avoid surgery in rehab process. He has already begun rehabbing.
