LSU football's head coaching search has revolved around Ole Miss's Lane Kiffin. The Tigers have Kiffin atop the wishlist and nearly all of LSU's efforts have been focused on wooing Kiffin from Oxford.
But Kiffin to LSU is far from a lock. Kiffin could opt to remain at Ole Miss or take the job at Florida. If LSU misses, the Tigers will have to pivot.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementA name that's been thrown out there is Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz.
Drinkwitz's name has popped up in a few different searches this year, including Penn State. Recent reports indicated Drinkwitz was one of LSU's backup plans, but now there's talk of a potential extension for Drinkwitz at Missouri.
Missouri's board will hold an "executive session" on Wednesday night related to contracts and personnel matters.
Calum McAndrew of the Columbia Daily Tribune writes the meeting "is almost certainly to do with Drinkwitz's contract."
This doesn't mean an extension is final or that Drinkwitz is ready to accept, but it looks like the university is taking initial steps to make it happen.
