Two members of the National Guard were shot in Washington, D.C., near the White House on Wednesday afternoon.

Their conditions aren’t immediately known.

The White House was in a state of lockdown after the shooting, the Press Secretary said.

The Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department wrote on X it had secured the scene of a shooting near Farragut Square, about a block from the White House complex, and that a suspect was in custody.

“Please join me in praying for the two National Guardsmen who were just shot moments ago in Washington D.C.,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X. “DHS is working with local law enforcement to gather more information.”

“The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social.
