The Baltimore Orioles saw some benefits to having Ramon Urias on the roster over the past few seasons, as he was with the team from 2020 to 2025 before joining the Houston Astros.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementUrias was never an elite player by any means, but he had some solid stretches, with his best season coming in 2022, when he posted a 3.8 bWAR.
While searching for more opportunities around Major League Baseball, it seems like Urias should find a new home rather soon.
When examining players for the Detroit Tigers to pursue, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press recently stated that he could be an option in Detroit.
“Urías, a six-year MLB veteran, is a defense-first player who specializes in third base but also plays second base, shortstop and first base. He hit .241 with 11 home runs, 27 walks and 88 strikeouts in 112 games for the Baltimore Orioles (77 games) and Astros (35 games) last season, performing better against left-handed pitchers. From 2023-25, Urías hit .263 with a .734 OPS against lefties, compared to .249 with a .692 OPS against righties.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement“The Tigers would benefit from a right-handed hitting infielder who performs against lefties (only if prospect Hao-Yu Lee begins the season in Triple-A Toledo or shortstop Javier Báez plays center field against lefties), making Urías' fit dependent on the roster configuration,” he wrote.
A reunion with the Orioles doesn’t seem to make much sense, even if they were to view him as a utility player who can swing the bat at an average level.
