The Asset has hit a major viewership milestone on streaming. Netflix's The Asset, which debuted on the platform on October 27, is a Danish espionage drama with a thrilling atmosphere that feels similar to Apple TV's popular spy series Slow Horses. The series follows a police recruit going undercover in a dangerous drug ring and stars Clara Dessau, Maria Cordsen, and Afshin Firouzi.
Netflix has now released their official chart of the Top 10 most-watched non-English series for the week of November 17 through 23. The Asset has landed at No. 10 during its fourth week on the platform thanks to 1.3 million viewers accumulating a total of 6 million viewing hours.
The Asset was in the Top 10 in five individual countries, namely Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Kenya, and Saudi Arabia. It previously debuted at No. 1 globally (hitting No. 1 in 51 individual countries), dropping to No. 2 during its sophomore week and No. 7 the following week.
While the spy show is arcing slowly downward, this week it has passed the 20 million milestone with a cumulative 20.5 million viewers and 97.1 million viewing hours.
This milestone is remarkable for a non-English Netflix series. Although the platform has had huge international hits, such as South Korea's Squid Game and Spain's Money Heist, the most-viewed seasons on the entire platform range from just 58.4 million viewers (Who Killed Sara? season 1) to 265.2 million viewers (Squid Game season 1).
While the three record-breaking seasons of Squid Game are outliers, the chart otherwise pales in comparison to Netflix's Top 10 English series of all time, which range from 98.2 million viewers (the limited series Fool Me Once) to 252.1 million viewers (Wednesday season 1).
The Asset's performance is also excellent compared to other contemporary non-English series that have been on the chart for four weeks. This includes the Brazilian crime drama Rulers of Fortune. Although the series surged in its sophomore week, usurping The Asset's spot at No. 1, its cumulative viewer total is just 14.3 million.
The Asset has also bested the South Korean reality show Physical: Asia, which is the first of three planned spinoffs of Netflix's 2023 competition show Physical: 100. Physical: Asia, which has been more of a sleeper success despite never hitting No. 1, has nevertheless only accumulated 16 million viewers during the same time frame.
