The Washington Commanders nominated punter Tress Way for the NFL's Art Rooney Sportsmanship award on Wednesday.

The award, created in 2014, honors the late founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pro Football Hall of Famer, Art Rooney Sr.

"Sportsmanship is at the very the core of the game, the foundation of our values that are shared across all levels of the sport," said Troy Vincent, NFL executive vice president of football operations. "These Rooney Sportsmanship Award nominees demonstrate to the world how the game is played with respect and integrity at the highest level of competition."

The Award is presented each year to an NFL player who best demonstrates qualities of on-field sportsmanship. The qualities include fair play and respect for the game as well as their opponents.

The winner of the award is determined by a vote with current NFL rostered players. The 32 nominees are cut down to eight finalists, and each team's player will submit a consensus vote of their pick for the winner.

Similar to Pro Bowl voting, a team cannot vote for its own player.

The Winner of the award will be announced as part of NFL Honors and will receive a $25,000 donation from the NFL Foundation to a charity of his choice.

Way has kicked 34 punts this season for an average of 48.5 yards, with 17 landing inside the 20-yard line.
