Avengers: Doomsday is on the horizon, and here is everything you need to remember from the various Disney+ MCU shows going into it. Avengers: Doomsday's release date is still over a year away, with the film set to be released on December 18, 2026. That said, a recent report claimed that Avengers: Doomsday's trailer would be attached to 2025's Avatar: Fire and Ash.
This would give MCU fans a true first look at the upcoming Marvel movie after years of build-up. Naturally, the MCU movies of 2025 played a big role in the active setup of Avengers: Doomsday's story, but threads from earlier projects are likely to show up, too.
For those who have only kept up with Marvel's movies in recent years, some of these story threads and character beats will first have been introduced in the MCU's various Disney+ TV shows. As a result, there are several things that viewers will need to know going into Avengers: Doomsday and potentially its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars.
Monica Rambeau Gained Light-Based Powers Linked To Captain Marvel

We begin with WandaVision, the first MCU Disney+ show, released in 2021. WandaVision focused on the two titular characters, but it had a plethora of important side characters, too. One was Monica Rambeau, the daughter of Carol Danvers' friend from Captain Marvel, Maria Rambeau. In WandaVision, Monica was a SWORD agent, tasked with infiltrating Wanda Maximoff's magical Hex.
After doing so, Monica eventually gained light-based superpowers. This became a central plot point in the 2023 MCU movie, The Marvels. In the final moments of The Marvels, Monica's powers were used to mend a rift in the MCU multiverse, placing her in a universe filled with classic versions of the X-Men, likely the very same versions of the characters set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
Sam Wilson Became The Avengers’ Official Leader As Captain America

Although this was also covered in 2025's Captain America: Brave New World, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw Sam Wilson officially take on the mantle of Captain America. The 2021 MCU TV show saw Sam struggling to come to terms with Steve Rogers' decision to make the former the next Captain America.
This was driven by his own lack of self-belief, as well as how America has treated black men over the decades, including the MCU's forgotten Captain America named Isaiah Bradley. Eventually, Sam came to terms with his position and solidified himself as Captain America, becoming the de facto leader of The Avengers, as Avengers: Doomsday will depict.
Loki Met A Kang The Conqueror Variant, He Who Remains
He Who Remains in his blue cloak in Loki
Loki was the next MCU TV show after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Interestingly, Loki was the most important MCU show at that point, as it was teasing the events of what was supposed to be Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Of course, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is now Avengers: Doomsday after Marvel pivoted away from the former due to Jonathan Majors' assault charges.
Still, Avengers: Doomsday will begin without the Kang storyline being outright resolved, meaning this may well happen in the movie itself. With that in mind, it is important to recap some plot points from Loki.
Loki introduced a Kang variant named He Who Remains, who warned the titular Marvel god about a Multiversal War between several other Kang variants. He Who Remains, in order to stop his variants from wreaking havoc on the multiverse, created the Sacred Timeline, in which the MCU's various films and TV shows take place, thus preventing the expansion of a true multiverse.
A Loki Variant Named Sylvie Cracked Open The Multiverse
Sylvie in Loki
However, a Loki variant named Sylvie held a grudge against He Who Remains and his police force, the TVA. The TVA, aka Time Variance Authority, regularly destroyed branching timelines to stop the multiverse from expanding and keep Kang variants at bay, with one of these "pruned" timelines being Sylvie's own.
Consumed with revenge, Sylvie killed He Who Remains. This caused the MCU multiverse to begin to grow, completely unchecked, as has been explored in subsequent MCU properties and will be a main plot point in Avengers: Doomsday.
Concerning Kang the Conqueror, Avengers: Doomsday could tie up this loose thread. How that happens, or if, indeed, it will at all, remains to be seen. Either way, Loki was important in the creation of the multiverse, which will certainly be part of Avengers: Doomsday.
Hawkeye Passed On His Mantle To Kate Bishop
After-Jeremy-Renner’s-Marvel-Salary-Comments-I've-Changed-My-Mind,-I-Don’t-Want-Hawkeye-Season-2-To-Happen-For-A-Key-Reason-v1image by Yeider Chacon
A much smaller-scale impact an MCU TV show had on the franchise came in Hawkeye. This show was a low-key, crime-based Christmas story involving the titular character, Clint Barton, passing on his Hawkeye mantle to a new hero, Kate Bishop. By the time of Hawkeye's ending, Clint seemingly retired with his family, with Kate taking up his duties as a new Hawkeye.
Jeremy Renner has not yet been confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, but the full cast has also not been divulged thus far. This means that Renner could appear once more as Clint in the movie, Hailee Steinfeld could reprise her role as Kate Bishop, or both actors could appear. In any case, it is worth remembering that Clint trained Kate to be his Hawkeye replacement.
Ms. Marvel Is A Mutant & Wants To Form A New Team
Kamala smiling in Ms Marvel episode 1
2022's Ms. Marvel introduced Kamala Khan to the MCU, a superfan of Captain Marvel herself. After encountering a magical bangle sent by her grandmother, Kamala Khan becomes Ms. Marvel, another MCU superhero with light-based powers. The show is mostly self-contained, outside of Kamala's links to Captain Marvel that were further outlined in 2023's MCU movie, The Marvels.
However, one thing worth remembering from Ms. Marvel before Avengers: Doomsday is that Kamala Khan is a mutant. Kamala is an Inhuman in Marvel Comics, but the MCU decided to make her the franchise's first official mutant, tying her to the X-Men, set to appear in Doomsday.
Beyond that, Kamala was also planning to form her own MCU team, featuring the likes of Hawkeye's Kate Bishop and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's Cassie Lang. This all means that Kamala's mutant ties could link her to Avengers: Doomsday's X-Men or that her MCU Young Avengers team could play a role in the fight against Doctor Doom.
Hulk Has A Son
Smart Hulk introducing Skaar at the end of She-Hulk Attorney at Law
Another relatively self-contained MCU TV show was She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, focusing on Bruce Banner's cousin and new Hulk character, Jennifer Walters. Mark Ruffalo appeared several times throughout She-Hulk as Bruce/The Hulk, with one plot point potentially tying into future MCU movies like Avengers: Doomsday.
During She-Hulk, it was revealed that Hulk sired a son during his time in space between Avengers: Age of Ultron and Thor: Ragnarok. This son, Skaar, traveled back to Earth with Hulk in the final episode of She-Hulk. Whether this plays into Avengers: Doomsday remains to be seen, but it is worth remembering should Ruffalo reprise his role.
Nick Fury Has Been Helping Super-Powered Skrulls Live On Earth
Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury walks in the dark wearing a beanie in Secret Invasion
Secret Invasion was expected to be more consequential to the wider MCU than it was, but some elements of it could be explored in Avengers: Doomsday. The entire premise of the show was that Nick Fury has been helping a shape-shifting race called the Skrulls, first introduced in Captain Marvel, live on Earth since the 1990s.
In Secret Invasion, one of these Skrulls, G'iah, became a super-powered Super-Skrull, imbued with the abilities of several Avengers and their allies or enemies. It is admittedly unlikely that the Super-Skrull appears in Avengers: Doomsday, but Nick Fury is certainly a possible candidate to play a role. If so, this is what he has been getting up to in the MCU beforehand.
The MCU’s Potential Young Avengers Members Have Been Introduced
Joe Locke as Wiccan in Agatha All Along
As alluded to, Ms. Marvel is planning to build her own Young Avengers team. In several of the MCU Disney+ shows, potential members of that team have been introduced. There are Hawkeye's Kate Bishop and She-Hulk's Skaar, both of which have been mentioned so far.
Beyond those, there are Wiccan and Speed, aka Billy and Tommy Maximoff. The twin sons of Wanda Maximoff and Vision were introduced in WandaVision, with Agatha All Along explaining how Billy became real after being simply a construct of Wanda's magic in the former. 2026's Vision Quest will do the same for Tommy Maximoff, potentially setting up Wiccan and Speed as Young Avengers.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier introduced Eli Bradley, Isaiah Bradley's grandson, who becomes a young hero named Patriot in Marvel Comics. Loki then introduced a Kid Loki variant, proving that the MCU's Disney+ shows have laid the groundwork for the Young Avengers.
While not confirmed for an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, the Young Avengers could have a part to play in the multiversal battle against Doctor Doom in either that movie or Avengers: Secret Wars.
Loki Became The God Of The Multiverse
Loki looking at the camera in Loki season 2
Perhaps the most important, most direct link between an MCU TV show and Avengers: Doomsday came in Loki season 2. Loki season 2 saw Loki attempting to fix a TVA failsafe called the Temporal Loom, which was designed to destroy all timelines and the TVA in the case of He Who Remains' death and the expansion of the multiverse.
Eventually, after many trials and tribulations, Loki vows to fix the Temporal Loom himself. In reality, Loki fixes nothing, instead destroying the Temporal Loom and serving in its place. This means that, as of Loki season 2's ending, Loki is the god of the multiverse, holding together and watching over the infinite branches of the multiverse.
Concerning how this will tie into Avengers: Doomsday, Tom Hiddleston has been confirmed to appear as Loki. The movie will focus on Doctor Doom waging war on the multiverse, something its new protector will oppose. As such, this version of Loki will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, trying to protect the multiverse from Doom's dark plans.
