If you're hoping to use the Black Friday sales to upgrade your tired old vacuum for a bargain price, I'm here to help. There are dozens – maybe hundreds – of vacuum deals to choose from, but I've rounded up the best options for you to browse below.

As TechRadar's Homes Editor for floorcare, I've tested vacuums at all prices, from many different brands, so I have a good idea of how different options perform and what to look for. Below, I've only included the options I'd genuinely recommend. And of course, I've done a price-check, to make sure the current discount is actually good, and not a fake deal.

I recently did a group test of the best cordless vacuums around, and the PowerDetect Cordless came out top in all my cleaning trials – it can handle everything from fine particles in thick carpet to pet hair. This version has an auto-empty dock to take the effort and mess out of emptying.

There's $129 off the Dreame R20 in the US, which is a 43% mark-down on sticker price. This is the lowest price I have on record for this vacuum. The R20 is an excellent all-rounder that'll suit most people's needs – it's lightweight and nimble, with useful automatic suction adjustment and plenty of well-designed detail tools. The cleaning is very good, too, although homes with lots of carpet or shedding pets may want something more powerful.

A relatively new addition to the Dyson lineup, the V9 is a lightweight vacuum with solid suction specs and a helpful screen to provide info. It's aimed at budget-conscious buyers and is even more affordable right now. This discount is also available direct from Dyson.

In our Levoit LVAC-200 review, my tester found it lightweight and easy to maneuver, with good build quality and useful extra tools. The suction is perfect for hard floors and the occasional rug, but if you have lots of carpet you might need something more powerful

Dyson has knocked nearly 40% off the list price of the V11 with a whole bunch of detail tools bundled in. This model sits around the middle of Dyson's cordless range in terms of specs, and it's extremely strong value for money with this deal. Expect excellent suction and generous runtimes, plus a useful LCD screen to provide info. This deal is also available direct from Dyson.

There's $250 off the V15 this Black Friday week – not quite the cheapest price I have on record for this vacuum, but close. It's one of my very favorite Dyson vacs, mixing superb suction and excellent usability with hi-tech features. It comes bundled with a soft floorhead for hard flooring, equipped with a laser to illuminate dust that might otherwise be missed.

The V12 Detect Slim has a major Black Friday price cut, with $330 off list price. This cordless stick vac boasts dirt detection and automatic suction adjustment, and comes bundled with a fluffy floorhead that will illuminate dirt on hard floors. Despite all that cutting-edge tech, it still comes in at a relatively affordable price – and one that's far more affordable right now. In TechRadar's V12 Detect Slim review, my teammate flagged the dust cup, which makes it a better choice for small homes. This deal is also available at Walmart.

The Shark IX141 has received one of the biggest price cuts in the early Amazon Black Friday sales – it's over 50% off. We haven't tested this model specifically, but generally Shark's vacuums test very well. This vacuum looks simple but effective, and is well worth checking out if you're shopping on a budget. This deal is also available at Best Buy.

There's a total of $70 off this vacuum in the Amazon Black Friday sale – that's an excellent price on this model. Although we haven't tested this specific vacuum, it boasts many of the same features that we like so much in other Shark uprights, including a bin section that can be removed and held in the hand, while you use the floorhead or a detail tool on a wand, for more flexibility.

This model is a classic within the Dyson range, so while there's no dirt detection or laser illumination, it's still a super-effective cleaner, and it's lighter than Dyson's newer additions too. The Gen5detect is one of Dyson's newest and most advanced vacuums, and there's $300 off for Black Friday. I have seen it go for even cheaper than this, although with Black Friday almost upon us, I'm not sure if a better price will appear this year. The Gen5detect boasts ultra-long battery life and advanced dirt detection capabilities. This deal is also available direct from Dyson.

The Gen5outsize has had a $300 price cut for Black Friday, taking it to very nearly the cheapest price I've seen. It's the same as the Gen5detect but scaled up, for larger homes, with a larger dust cup and wider floorhead. You'll still get all the same hi-tech features, including real-time dust reports and automatic suction adjustment.

Prices just dropped again on the V8 at Amazon, taking it to 40% off – I'd be extremely surprised if it got any cheaper, as the current price matches the lowest I've seen. This is the oldest model in the Dyson lineup, but remains ultra-popular, with its simple but effective design, strong cleaning power and great maneuverability. This Advanced version has more suction than the original V8.

There's over £50 off the R20 cordless, which takes it to a new lowest-ever price. This model sits right at the top of my best cordless vacuum guide – it's lightweight and comfortable to use, with effective cleaning and useful extra features, such as automatic suction adjustment. A very impressive all-rounder, for a very affordable price. For lots of carpet or pet hair, you might want something with a little more power, though.

Although deals are common on the Statos Cordless, this 55% off discount is especially strong, and very nearly the cheapest this vacuum has ever been. This is an older Shark vacuum, and while it might not have advanced features like dirt detection, it packs a real punch when it comes to suction power. It's worth considering if you're looking for a cordless vacuum for pet hair or lots of carpet.

Prices just keep falling on the V11 Extra – it's at another new cheapest-ever price in the Black Friday sales. In my Dyson V11 review I called it an excellent cleaner, with powerful suction, long battery life and a useful LCD screen to provide info. It's extremely appealing at this price – especially given the wide selection of tools that are bundled in. This deal is also available direct from Dyson.

With nearly £90 off, the PowerPro cordless is down to a new lowest-ever price. Although I haven't used this specific vacuum myself, it looks like a very solid choice – it uses Shark's effective DirtDetect technology for automatic suction adjustment, has a very decent maximum runtime of 50 minutes, and you can release the wand to bend forward for easy vacuuming under furniture. Alternatively, there's the PowerPro Pet for £161 at John Lewis, and it comes bundled with an extra motorized furniture tool.

This vacuum is a little pricier than it was a week or so ago, so if you're not in a hurry, then it's worth sitting tight and seeing if it falls back to its lowest price of £449.95. Out of all the Dyson vacuums, the V15 is probably the model I'd recommend to most people. It balances cool, hi-tech features with a user-friendly design and, of course, excellent cleaning.

The V10 is at its lowest-ever price of £279.99 in Dyson's Black Friday sale. This model was never a flagship and can sometimes be overlooked, but with this discount, it's well worth checking out. There's no LCD screen for info, but the runtimes are strong and the suction is good – on both fronts its a step up from the V8 (which sits below it in the lineup).
