Kelly, of Arizona, was one of several Democratic lawmakers who released a video telling service members that they did not have to follow illegal orders. President Donald Trump called the video "seditious" and said it was an offense "punishable by death" in a post on his Truth Social platform.
On Monday, the Pentagon announced that it would investigate Kelly, a retired Navy captain and former astronaut,
The Alaska Republican called the Pentagon probe into Kelly “frivolous” and said the Defense Department and FBI “surely have more important priorities.”
Murkowski wrote on X Tuesday night, "Senator Kelly valiantly served our country as an aviator in the U.S. Navy before later completing four space shuttle missions as a NASA astronaut. To accuse him and other lawmakers of treason and sedition for rightfully pointing out that servicemembers can refuse illegal orders is reckless and flat-out wrong. The Department of Defense and FBI surely have more important priorities than this frivolous investigation."
Murkowski joins Representative Don Bacon of Nebraska among the members of Congress that have spoken out against the Pentagon threatening to recall Kelly. Bacon called the investigation "amateur hour once again."
