Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Tulsa King season 3, episode 10.The ending of Tulsa King season 3 broke a tradition of Taylor Sheridan's crime drama, and it calls the future of the series into question. The finale of Tulsa King season 3 was fairly similar to the finales of previous seasons. Dwight took down his main antagonist (in this season it was Jeremiah Dunmire) in a big firefight, he secured the scheme he was working on, and the entire cast of Tulsa King celebrated at the Bred2Buck.
It was another happy ending for Dwight and the gang, but the ending of Tulsa King season 3 had one major difference from the last two seasons' finales. Obviously there were small differences, like Samuel L. Jackson's Russell Lee Washington Jr. and Cole Dunmire betraying his father, but one change could have some big implications for Tulsa King season 4.
Tulsa King Season 3 Didn’t End With A Cliffhanger
Sylvester Stallone holding an espresso cup in Paramount+'s Tulsa King.
Unlike the ending of Tulsa King seasons 1 and 2, Tulsa King season 3 didn't end on a cliffhanger. In Tulsa King season 1, Dwight was arrested after Stacy Beale accused him of bribing a federal agent, and season 2 had to deal with his court case. In season 2, Dwight was abducted by Agent Musso, and season 3 had to delve into their work to capture Dexter Deacon.
But, in Tulsa King season 3, there's no twist at the last moment. Dwight kills Jeremiah Dunmire, gets his federal liquor license, and the season ends with him enjoying himself at the Bred2Buck. There's no big mystery for Tulsa King season 4 to solve like there was for the last two seasons, and it's not even clear where the show's story is going to go from here.
There were a few setups for future stories in the finale of Tulsa King season 3. Cal Thresher is governor now, and he seems to want Dwight out of his life. Bill Bevilaqua likely also wants Dwight to pay for getting him kidnapped, while Agent Musso is convinced Dwight still owes him. Still, the finale of Tulsa King season 3 would have worked as a series finale, unlike the last two seasons' final episodes.
Don't Worry, Tulsa King Will Continue Despite The Definitive Ending Of Season 3
Brian Douglas / Paramount+
Luckily, despite the definitive ending of Tulsa King season 3, the show will go on. Tulsa King season 4 has already been confirmed, and there's even the spinoff show NOLA King starring Samuel L. Jackson in the works. Dwight's story and his continual takeover of Tulsa is clearly going to continue, and there's even a chance he'll join forces with Lee's budding criminal empire in Louisiana.
Even though there is clearly still a future for Tulsa King, it's not nearly as certain as it has been in the past. These cliffhanger endings gave us a good indication of what was coming up in the show. Dwight's arrest set the stage for the court case, while his kidnapping teased Musso's entrance to the show. Tulsa King season 4 has no such setup, and its story is almost a complete mystery at this point.

It's also strange that Tulsa King would abandon its cliffhanger ending tradition when we know for a fact that any loose ends will be tied up in new seasons. There was no guarantee that Tulsa King would be renewed for a second season when the first season ended on a cliffhanger, but now that there is a guarantee, the show has moved away from it. It's possible the writers of Tulsa King simply got tired of setting up storylines between seasons that they then had to resolve later on down the line.
