This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.Netflix's live-action Assassin's Creed show has cast its first major lead role in a promising production update for the video game adaptation. Netflix's Assassin's Creed series was originally announced in 2020 as part of a deal with video game studio Ubisoft. Since then, however, there have been sparse updates about production or when the series might come out.
Now, Deadline reports that Toby Wallace has been cast as the co-lead in the live-action Assassin's Creed adaptation. Much like the original video game series, the TV show will focus on the fight between two organizations, presumably the Assassins and the Templars. Details about Wallace's character haven't been revealed, but the series' characters will differ from those in the games.
Toby Wallace in The Bikeriders
Wallace previously starred as Campbell Eliot in the 2019 Netflix teen drama The Society. Since then, he's gone on to star in films such as The Bikeriders and Finestkind, while also portraying guitarist Steve Jones in the 2022 FX miniseries Pistol. He'll also have a starring role in the upcoming Euphoria season 3, arriving in 2026.
The Assassin's Creed TV series is headed by showrunners Roberto Patino (DMZ) and David Wiener (Halo). The show will begin filming in Italy in 2026, which is also expected to be its setting. It hasn't been revealed what time period it will take place in, but it could pull from Assassin's Creed II, which took place during the Italian Renaissance.
