The Toronto Blue Jays spotted a player with some MLB experience in free agency and have added him to their infield depth as they try to get the one more win in 2026 that they couldn't get in 2025.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementOn Tuesday, the Blue Jays signed Rodolfo Castro to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training, according to 7News' Ari Alexander.
Castro is a 26-year old, switch-hitting infielder.
He appeared in MLB in 2021, 2022 and 2023. He played 180 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates and another 14 for the Philadelphia Phillies.
In his MLB time, Castro is a .219 hitter with a .672 OPS. He has 17 doubles, four triples and 22 home runs in 194 games.
Castro is a much better hitter from the right side, putting up a .528 slugging percentage against left-handed pitching.
In 2025, Castro played exclusively for Triple-A Lehigh Valley in the Phillies organization. He batted .235 with 19 home runs and 18 stolen bases.

The Blue Jays will likely have a full starting infield by the time spring training rolls around, but Castro will have a legitimate path to a bench spot.
Even if he opens the year at Triple-A Buffalo, Castro's versatility should get him a crack in the majors with Toronto before too long.
