Who is Cade York? The New Orleans Saints brought in the new kicker after York tried out alongside former Baltimore Ravens Justin Tucker on Tuesday, signing York to their practice squad where he'll compete with second-year backup Charlie Smyth for the opportunity to kick this week. The incumbent starter Blake Grupe was released after missing eight of his tries through his first eleven games.

So there's a good chance it could be York setting up to kick against the Miami Dolphins next Sunday. He's been a bit of a journeyman in the NFL but LSU Tigers fans know him well. York was a freshman on LSU's all-time great 2019 championship team, leading the nation with 89 extra points. After he put up an 81.8% hit rate on field goals and made 97.6% of his PATs, the Cleveland Browns picked York in the fourth round of the 2022 draft.

But things didn't go to plan. York missed eight kicks his rookie year and was let go afterwards. Outside of a one-game stop with the Washington Commanders where he missed both of his field goal tries, he's been quiet -- until the Cincinnati Bengals signed him in 2024. He found his footing and made 9 of his 11 tries, one of them a 59 yarder, and 14 of his 15 extra points. Now he gets another chance to turn things around.
