Tom Holland's acting legacy will always be associated with Spider-Man, but his best performance to date is in an overlooked Apple TV thriller.
After starting his acting career with 2012's The Impossible, Tom Holland gradually gained momentum before eventually getting his big break in Captain America: Civil War. As the MCU's new Spider-Man, Holland eventually got his own standalone movies as well, while playing key roles in the Avengers films. He is also all set to reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the upcoming installment of the franchise, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
As incredible as his portrayal of Spider-Man might have seemed, though, he delivered his finest performance in an underrated miniseries on Apple TV.
Tom Holland Delivered His Career-Best Performance In Apple TV’s The Crowded Room
Tom Holland is looking down in The Crowded Room
Tom Holland has played Spider-Man so many times on the big screen that his roles in shows and movies from other genres often go overlooked. For instance, Holland took the challenge of portraying a young man with Dissociative Identity Disorder in Apple TV's The Crowded Room. Throughout the show's runtime, he captured Danny Sullivan's fragmented personality with remarkable restraint, which truly captured his range as an actor.
Unlike the MCU's Spider-Man movies, The Crowded Room relies less on spectacle and action. The show has its own pitfalls, but it attempts to approach its subject matter with sensitivity and a lack of sensationalism.
Holland does an incredible job of fully immersing himself in his character's different personalities with subtle shifts in everything from his posture to his accent. In the Apple TV show, he is almost unrecognizable because he seems nothing like his high-energy self from the MCU.
Many sequences from the show also allow him to truly shine as an actor by capturing how, even in moments of no dialogue, his eyes and mannerisms carry the weight of Danny’s struggles. Owing to this, even though one should look forward to his upcoming roles, his performance in The Crowded Room also deserves more attention and appreciation.
Holland’s Performance In The Crowded Room Makes His Future Roles More Exciting

Since Holland played the same part in all MCU installments, the movies arguably did not capture his true potential and growth as an actor. The Crowded Room gives an accurate portrayal of how far he has come since his debut in 2012. It shows that in the MCU and even further beyond it, Holland is one actor audiences should keep a close eye on.

He will play Odysseus's son, Telemachus, in the film, which seems like another opportunity for him to put his acting forte on full display.
Hopefully, Tom Holland's performance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey will bring new eyes to Apple TV's The Crowded Room and pave the way for the actor to land bigger and more diverse roles in the near future.
