Jackass 5 will be the end of an era.

Starting as an MTV show in 2000, Jackass has since blossomed into a series of popular and successful feature films, with co-creator Johnny Knoxville and his companions risking life and limb for audience entertainment. Jackass 5 was confirmed earlier this year, with Knoxville revealing that it will release on June 26, 2026.

Now, speaking with Rolling Stone, Knoxville confirms that the upcoming installment in his long-running comedy franchise will serve as the end of the road. "This will be the last one," the star says. "This is the natural place to end. So it’s going to be absolutely awful."

Though Knoxville doesn't reveal any of the stunts that are to come, he does drop one fitting tease when the interviewer wishes him well with the movie. "You hope it doesn’t go well at all!" the star jokes. "Should be a f***ing train wreck. That’s what you should hope for. I think we designed it that way."

Knoxville co-created the original MTV series with Jeff Tremaine and Spike Jonze, with the show wrapping up after three seasons in 2001. The first feature film arrived in 2002, featuring Knoxville and costars Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Bam Margera, Jason "Wee Man" Acuña, Dave England, Preston Lacy, and the late Ryan Dunn performing an array of dangerous stunts and gross-out pranks.

Jackass Forever (2022) marks the most recent main release in the franchise, with Jackass 4.5 arriving later that same year with outtakes and various pieces of unused footage. Forever gave Knoxville his most serious franchise injury yet, with the star suffering a brain hemorrhage and several broken bones during a stunt involving a bull.

As a result of his brain damage, Knoxville has confirmed that his time doing truly dangerous stunts is over. Jackass 5 will presumably feature the actor taking on more of an advisory role as other cast members move into the spotlight, but he will still be able to participate in the franchise's signature gross-out gags.

Margera, a longtime Jackass cast member, is confirmed to appear in the upcoming film, but only in the form of archival footage. Margera had a very public falling out with his fellow cast members after being fired from Jackass Forever for breaching a "wellness agreement." Margera filed a lawsuit due to the firing, but ultimately dropped it after a private settlement.

It remains to be seen how Jackass 5 will wrap up the saga, but Knoxville's latest comments certainly suggest audiences can expect an upping of the ante when it comes to the stunts. Though there will evidently be plenty of laughing and cringing, as is franchise tradition, this final installment may also end up being surprisingly bittersweet.
