For a while there, it seemed like we weren't going to get a release date for Marvel's Wolverine anytime soon. It was nowhere to be seen in Sony's recent State of Play broadcast, and we were warned that updates would come in the "spring" for Insonmiac's latest comic book action romp.
Now, thanks to a post on X from Insomniac Games themselves, we have a firm release date of September 15, 2026. Fan reactions have been strong, and they're mostly glad that Insomniac didn't keep us waiting.

It's Still Slated For 2026

For the most part, many AAA game release dates are revealed on major streams. So when the State of Play came and went in February, fans were understandably confused as to what was happening with Wolverine.
But it turns out that the strategy of shadow-dropping the release date later on worked in Insomniac and Sony's favor. As one fan on X put it: "This is the best way to reveal a release date. No waiting, no overhyping, no announcements at the end of overblown gaming events. Just straight to the point." Another fan sums up most of the messages on social today following the reveal: "Making my way to the PlayStation store and wishlisting it right now as we speak. This will be an immediate pre-order, just say the word when it’s available."
Another comment sums up how most people are feeling right now: "Dropping release date on a random Tuesday?! Boy... this is a surprise for sure." Others are excited at the sheer volume of games and comic-related media coming out this year: "Between this, GTA 6, Spiderman Brand New Day, and Avengers Doomsday, I think 2026 will heal me."
Funnily enough, while there aren't a lot of detractors, some fans, like this one, are hoping Insomniac will return to the Rachet & Clank series at some point: "Okay now, let's focus on Ratchet & Clank... The symbol of the company... The game that ensured your success... The game that kept you afloat when [it] wasn't looking gravy.... Us R&C fans bought every copy, we never left... Please feed us, rift apart was eons ago."

It Has A Lot of Expectations Riding On It

While there is some caution among fans about whether Marvel's Wolverine will deliver, one just needs to look at their recent catalog to get an idea of how things could pan out. Insomniac Games has been on fire for a while, delivering Marvel's Spider-Man, Miles Morales, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart over the course of the last eight years.
It's a fantastic output overall, and Marvel's Wolverine is in good hands at least. Now we won't have to wait too long to see how it turned out.
