Atlanta Hawks rookie Asa Newell recorded his second double-double in the G League on Tuesday, helping the College Park Skyhawks to a win over the Raptors 905.
Newell produced 21 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals and one blocked shot in the 132-129 victory at the Gateway Center Arena. He finished by shooting 8-of-14 from the field, including 1-of-4 from 3-point range, in 34 minutes, 5 seconds of work.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe 23rd overall pick had 13 points and eight rebounds in the first half alone. He showcased his playmaking ability and his athleticism throughout his time on the court, including a nifty spin and layup midway through the fourth quarter.
Newell has played sporadically for the Hawks, averaging 5.1 points and 2.1 rebounds in 39 appearances for coach Quin Snyder. He is one of 20 rookies to register a double-double this season after recording 12 points and 10 rebounds on Oct. 25.
The 20-year-old is averaging 21.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 56% from the field in seven games with the Skyhawks. He recorded 29 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists on Jan. 21 in a loss to the Maine Celtics.
