Dundee girls basketball team completes sweep of Ida, Airport wraps up perfect season in Huron League.

DUNDEE – Points have been at a premium in two girls basketball meetings between old rivals Dundee and Ida this season.

The first meeting at Ida on Jan. 30 was a 39-36 overtime slugfest that Dundee won.

The rematch followed a similar script with Dundee winning 37-31 on their home floor on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

“This one took everyone on the team,” Dundee coach Jay Briggs said. “Multiple players stepped up at different moments.”

The victory got Briggs looking back through the record books. He went back 10 years and could not find a time that Dundee had swept the regular-season series with Ida.

“It’s been a long time,” he said.

With points so difficult to find in this matchup. Dundee’s 9-0 run to start the game was monumental.

Lacey Evans got the Vikings rolling with 8 of her 10 points in the first quarter.

Freshman Aisley Cousino led the Vikings with 12 points and McKenzie Heath added 8.

Dundee improved to 14-7, reaching 14 wins for the first time since 2011-12. A victory over Britton Deerfield Thursday would give the Vikings their most wins since 1990.

Ida coach Tim Leonard was proud of the way his team fought back.

“Dundee's lead was cut to two at the start of the fourth quarter, but Ida was not able to score more than one basket in the fourth quarter,” Leonard said.

Adisyn Swiderski led 8-12 Blue Streaks with 11 points.

GIRLS

Airport 74, Flat Rock 39

CARLETON – Airport completed a 14-0 run through the Huron League schedule.

“Proud of the team for accomplishing one of our goals,” Airport interim coach Luke Baker said. “Not easy going 14-0 in the Huron League.  The girls play for each other and have put a lot of time and effort into the season.”

Sophia Mator and Olivia Gratz each scored 20 points for the 19-2 Jets.

Flat Rock (14-7) were led by Madleen Hussein with 16 points.

“We struggled to execute offensively and much of that was due to Airport’s relentless pressure,” Flat Rock coach Brian Kryk said. “They made every possession difficult and we weren’t able to find consistent answers.”

Gibraltar Carlson 40, Lincoln Park 30

LINCOLN PARK – Addison Burgei scored 15 points to lead Gibraltar Carlson to its third straight win.

“Burgei is having an amazing Freshman season,” Carlson coach John Mason said. “The sky is the limit for her at Carlson.”

Jill Farago and Addison Wallace added 10 and 8, respectively, for 16-5 Carlson.

Lenawee Christian 51, Summerfield 49

ADRIAN – Summerfield closed a 16-6 regular season with a tough road loss as a 3-pointer went in and out then a tip at the buzzer would not fall.

“What a great game back and forth all night both teams played hard,” Summerfield coach Mickey Moody said. “Very happy with our  effort tonight.”

Makenzie Wolfe topped the Summerfield scorers with 17 points and Jaeli Jones finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

BOYS

State Line 69, Faith Clinton Township 50

TEMPERANCE – Austin Nowak scored 25 of his career-high 30 points in the first half as State Line Christian rolled in the semifinals of the Michigan Association of Christian Schools state tournament.

“He was on fire and the other guys did a good job finding him,” State Line coach Nathan Nash said.

Preston Roque scored 18 points, Jackson Baumker 17 and JR Hobbins sparked the defense for the 17-8 Patriots, who will play Troy Bethany for the state championship at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mott Community College in Flint.
