Sutter Union High girls basketball won its first playoff game as a member of the Sac-Joaquin Section with a 62-43 win over No. 9 Valley Christian to earn a quarterfinal date with No. 1 Central Catholic, the top-team in the Sac-Joaquin Section D-IV poll, starting at 7 p.m. Thursday in Modesto.
The Huskies (22-7), seeded eight this year, received 18 points from Mia Bautista and 13 from Gia Rickertsen, helping to turn a single-digit lead at halftime into an 19-point win.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementSenior guard Presley Peyret once again led Sutter defensively with three steals and several forced turnovers, while collecting seven rebounds and dishing out six assists in the win.
Central Catholic (25-1) advanced over Ripon, 66-22 on Tuesday.
In other action …
– Yuba City, in its return to the playoffs for the first time since 2021-22, lost in the opening round to No. 2 East Union (Manteca), 58-29 Tuesday night.
YC finished the season 13-16 and in fourth place in the Foothill Valley League. This year was YC’s return to the playoffs since alumna Karine Dhaliwal was leading the Honkers on the court.

– River Valley (21-1-5) is a step closer to a Sac-Joaquin final after it emerged victorious over Vista del Lago, 1-0 at home to advance into the D-III semifinals today against Pioneer at River Valley High School. A win and the top-seeded Falcons advance to the finals for the first time since the banner year of 2012 at Cosumnes River College against the winner of league foe Roseville and Valley (Sacramento). Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. today at River Valley.
– Lindhurst was beaten in the D-IV quarterfinals at Venture Academy, 2-1 Tuesday.
