A major boss from the Super Mario franchise appears to be hiding in the marketing for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. As it stands, quite a few bosses and mini-bosses from Mario and Luigi's games have confirmed appearances in the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Both Bowser and Kamek will be returning, and, of course, Bowser Jr. will be on hand too, as it will be he who will seek to free Bowser after his capture in The Super Mario Bros. Movie's ending. Trailers for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie have revealed that a few more will be joining them, given that Mouser, Clawgrip, Megaleg, and Birdo have all been identified in the released footage.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie May Include Boom Boom
An additional Super Mario boss has also been teased, via the Super Mario Galaxy Movie's "Level Up" trailer. It previews a scene where Princess Peach and Toad walk into what looks like a bar where a large assortment of classic Mario minions are gathered together. On the far right side of the screen at the 0:13 mark, a large hand can be spotted, which looks like it belongs to Boom Boom.
Boasting an appearance that would make it easy to confuse him for a member of the Koopalings, Boom Boom is a Bowser minion and key antagonist for Mario and Luigi in the 1988 Nintendo classic, Super Mario Bros. 3. Boom Boom is generally characterized by his immense strength and short temper, making it essential that Mario dodge his attacks when he gets angry.
Afterward, the character disappeared for decades before finally being revived as a villain again in Super Mario 3D Land, which turned him into a duo by creating a female counterpart for him in the form of Pom Pom. The two serve as separate bosses, but eventually team up.
What Boom Boom's Role In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Could Be
Bowser Jr. wearing a mask in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Due in part to his inconsistent portrayal in the Super Mario games, it's certainly plausible that Boom Boom will simply be a background Easter egg. Although he has been represented as an individual character, others have reduced him to a simple obstacle, not unlike the Shy Guys and the Goombas. Theoretically, the movie could head in a similar direction.

A scene where Princess Peach and Toad use teamwork to defeat him could honor his important role in Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario Bros. 3.
