An LSU football coach is on the move to the professional level. Per a report from CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz, the Washington Commanders will hire safeties coach Jake Olsen to a position on Dan Quinn's staff.

Olsen started at LSU in January 2024, his second stint in Baton Rouge. He first arrived in 2021 as an analyst working with the linebackers then departed for Missouri to work under Blake Baker.

When Baker took the defensive coordinator job with the Tigers, Olsen followed and took over coaching the safeties. He mentored Jardin Gilbert and Major Burns during his first season in the role.

In 2025, Olsen led a rebuild of the secondary by working with transfers A.J. Haulcy and Tamarcus Cooley. Both burst onto the scene, helping LSU turn in consistently strong defensive performances all season long.

When head coach Lane Kiffin arrived at LSU, he needed to decide which staffers to retain, and Olsen was one who stuck around. His departure leaves a hole in the defensive staff as spring workouts get underway.
