There were plenty of offensive fireworks during a girls basketball game between Wolcott and Derby at Wolcott High School on Monday night.
Those fireworks were launched by two players - Wolcott senior Maddie LeDuc and Derby junior Shea Gray.

Wolcott won the game 81-47.
"We knew Shea was a star, but we felt our supporting cast was better, so we tried to pressure them, which helped get Maddie in the open court," Wolcott coach Powell Chodos said. " ... In space, there's no one better. Once a few layups went in, she got in a groove and everything seemed to drop."
Asked if he'd seen anything like the display put on Monday night, Chodos said he hadn't.

Derby coach Dave Chevarella agreed.
"I can't recall being involved in a game that had two players score that many points," Chevarella said.
The two stars combined for 93 of the 128 total points, or 72.7% of the offense.
The scoring started early and happened often.
After one quarter, LeDuc held a personal 14-11 lead over Gray, and Wolcott was ahead of Derby 21-11.
Ryleigh Boyles became the first Derby player other than Gray to score when she buried a 3-pointer to get the Raiders to within seven points 21-14.

Shaylee Shaw scored in the lane, then after LeDuc put up five straight points, Gianna Lucarelli made a straight-on bank shot.
Wolcott's Kali Geddes had nine points (three 3-pointers), London Parker scored six and Tatiana Hage added five. Nine Eagles scored in the game.
Gray scored next to get Derby to within 30-20 (Gray had 17 points at this point), but Wolcott pushed the visitors away.
LeDuc scored nine of the final 11 Eagle points of the half, including a driving layup that beat the buzzer. Wolcott led Derby 41-24 at halftime, and LeDuc was ahead of Gray 28-21.

"She also has range from far behind the three-point line, so defenses really have to pick their poison with her, but ultimately she's best in an up-and-down tempo type of game."
Derby (3-14) scored 23 points in the second half, and Gray had 21 of them to finish with 42 and 1,296 for her career to date.
"Shea has consistently done a good job of attacking the basket and getting to the foul line. Last night, she was 18-for-18 from the line," Chevarella said.
Wolcott put up 40 points in the second half, and LeDuc tallied 23 of them.

Wolcott (5-14) can make the CIAC tournament, but needs a win at Crosby on Thursday to get there. Teams need to win 30% of their games to qualify for states.
